What is, or who are the '100 Black Men'?
Founded in America in 1963, 100 Black Men Of America,
Inc. is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing support
to 89 national chapters in 28 states, the District of Columbia and
four international chapters - including 100 Black Men of London.
More than 10,000 dedicated mentors and volunteer members have touched
the lives of over 120,000 youths. Through programmes that have a
heavy emphasis on mentoring, education, health & well-being
and economic development youth are empowered to reach their full
potential. The first international chapter of 100 Black Men was
formed in Birmingham (UK) in December of 1997. The London chapter
was formed in 2001.
What does the name '100 Black Men' signify?
The name 100 Black Men was created as a symbol of solidarity. It
signifies a group of Black men in 1963 that came together for social
change.
How does the organisation operate?
100 Black Men of America serves as the international flagship for
member chapters around the globe. The national organisation is governed
by a Board of Directors that includes all member chapter presidents
and nine elected executive board members as follows:

· Vice President of Finance
· Vice President of Operations
· Vice President of Development
· Vice President of Programs
· Secretary Members-At-Large (3)
The structure of the 100 Black Men of London is as follows:
· Chapter President
· 5 Board of Directors
· Chair of Finance & Fundraising committee
· Chair of Mentoring & Education committee
· Chair of Marketing & PR committee
New chapters are chartered by the national organisation annually.
Charters are presented to the new chapters at the national convention
that is generally held in June. A dedicated team of staff oversees
the day-to day operations of the national office.
Who is eligible for membership with 100
Black Men of London?
African Caribbean men with a current involvement or strong
background in
business, government, industry or any organisation that can present
a positive role model / influence to the youth and our communities.
How is the organisation funded?
The 100 Black Men of London will be funded by a variety
of sources. The organisation receives grant funding for delivering
its mentoring programme from the international body.
Chapter dues, by way of an annual membership fee for all members,
which go towards covering core costs. Other sources of finance are
tending for delivering courses in mentoring, fund raising, donations,
sponsorships and in-kind contributions.
How can I become more involved with the
organisation?
Member and volunteer opportunities are available for
all individuals. Individuals who are interested in membership should

What services do the 100 Black Men of
London provide?
By way of chapter and associated programs The 100 Black Men of London
will provide youth mentoring. Scholarship assistance, and overall

How are student mentees selected?
The individual chapters determine student selection criteria. Generally,
students are selected through recommendations from school, community,
and church programs. Some chapter programs adopt classes of students,
schools and communities.
How are mentors selected?
The mentors of 100 Black Men of London are all volunteer
members. Each mentor completes a rigorous training and certification
program prior to placement. Additionally, the prospective mentor
must consent to and pass extensive background checks. Membership

Men?
One of the most significant contributions you could make would
be to offer your long-term participation in our activities. 100
Black Men of London is a non-profit making organisation, but we
would greatly value your material contributions. The following are
examples of charitable investments commonly made:

· In-kind contributions (i.e. property, equipment. loaned
executives, etc.)
