Mentoring The 100 Way is a mentoring and
education programme, offering structured group mentoring in primary
and secondary schools. The programme seeks to develop high self-esteem
and an appreciation for the value of a good education in boys and
girls.
The programme is in the form of twelve moudules designed to address
and develop important life issues, such as self identity, effective
expression, goal setting, social behaviour, family roles, substance
abuse awareness, conflict resolution and peer pressure to name a
few.
Members of the organisation present the workshops in series of
bi-weekly one hour sessions over a period of between 16-24 weeks.
Additionally, the students are provided with an array of cultural
and community enrichment activities.
The mentoring and education programmes of the 100 Black Men is
the most important contribution made to the community. Our commitment
to the youth is that we equip them with various life skills and
encourage the completion of secondary school along with the pursuit
of further education.
The persistent patterns of our youth dropping out of school contribute
not only to longer periods of unemployment, but also a significant
decline in college enrolment, particularly among African-Caribbean
males.
Mentoring programmes seek to help the youth develop a sense of
self-worth and pride, critical in overcoming many social barriers
that challenge them. The development of school-based mentoring programmes,
such as "Mentoring the 100 Way", which offers guidance
to African-Caribbean youth, is a critical and necessary strategy.
Our adult role models are also a direct positive influence for
aspiring and redirecting African-Caribbean males who are at-risk
of dropping out of school, being impoverished and incarcerated as
adults.
