Assisting our youth in developing their self-esteem and a hunger for ever-higher standards of achievement...

The Me I Can Be" is a community-orientated mentoring and education programme, offering structured group mentoring for boys & girls from 10 to 15 years old.

The 100 Black Men of London (100 BMOL) seek to assist African-Caribbean youths by providing leadership development workshops, motivational workshops and cultural enrichment and community activities."

The students of the programme participate in 'Saturday Academies', meeting typically every other Saturday of each month. The programme is in the form of a series of two-hour workshops designed to address and develop important life issues, such as self identity communication skills, social behaviour, cultural exposure, business and entrepreneurship male / female relationships health and fitness, personal responsibility family roles, Black history, substance abuse awareness and peer pressure.

Members of the organisation and experts in the various fields will present the workshops. Additionally, the students are provided an array of cultural and community enrichment activities.

We also invite academics, celebrities and achievers in their chosen fields to speak and participate in a question and answers session.

The mentoring and education program of the 100 Black Men is the most important contribution made to the community. Our commitment to the youth is that we shall equip them with various essential life skills and encourage the completion of paths through higher and further education.

The persistent patterns of our youth dropping out of school contribute not only to
longer periods of unemployment, but also a significant decline in college enrollment;
particularly among African-Caribbean males.

Mentoring programmes seek to help the youth develop a sense of self-worth and pride, critical in overcoming the many social barriers that challenge them. The development of community-based mentoring programs such as "The Me I Can Be", which offers guidance to African-Caribbean youth, is a critical and necessary strategy.

Our adult role models are also a direct positive influence for inspiring and redirecting African-Caribbean males who are at risk of dropping out of school, of limiting their life choices or even of being incarcerated as adults.
